THE WATER BEHIND THE SPIRIT

From Water Canyon to Every Bottle

In a high-desert valley shaped by stone and scarcity, water is more than an ingredient. It is where the story of Short Creek begins.

Where the Desert Comes to Life

Above the Short Creek Valley, Water Canyon cuts through towering sandstone, narrow passages, and open high-desert country. Water gathers in the canyon and descends toward a valley that could not exist in the same way without it.

The canyon water helps form the headwaters of Short Creek and has sustained life in this valley for generations. It connects mountain to desert, landscape to community, and today, canyon to glass.

A Journey Through Stone

Rain and snow from the surrounding high country enter the sandstone landscape, moving through porous rock and natural fractures before returning to the surface through springs, seeps, and canyon flows.

The Navajo Sandstone that defines this region is more than a dramatic backdrop. It is part of a living geological system that carries water from the high country toward the desert floor.

At Water Canyon, stone, elevation, water, and time come together. That natural journey gives life to the valley below and helps make this place unlike anywhere else.

“We chose the water because the spirit tasted better.”

“We chose the water because the spirit tasted better.”

“We chose the water because the spirit tasted better.”

Before making Water Canyon spring water part of the Short Creek identity, we compared it with other water in our spirits.

The difference was clear to us.

In our own side-by-side tasting, the canyon water produced the profile we were looking for: softer on the palate, smoother through the finish, and more naturally integrated with the spirit.

We did not continue using it simply because Water Canyon makes a compelling story. We continued using it because it made a better bottle.

The Signature in Every Bottle

Water matters when a spirit is brought to its final proof. It can influence texture, balance, and the way flavors come together in the glass.

At Short Creek Spirits, Water Canyon spring water is part of every expression we bring to bottle. It softens and finishes our vodka, carries the botanical character of our gin, supports the flavor of our rum, and brings balance to our whiskey and bourbon.

Some of our spirits begin in our stills. Others begin with mature American spirits that we carefully select and blend. Every one is brought to its final character here in Colorado City, using water from the canyon that gives life to our home.
